Temporary road closures will prevent commuters from using thoroughfares in Parkes, Phillip, Curtin, Yarralumla and around Capital Hill from 6am to noon.

Closures include:

• Yamba Drive's northbound lanes from Kitchener Street to Yarra Glen

• Yarra Glen's northbound lanes

• Adelaide Avenue's northbound lanes

• State Circle's northbound lanes

• Kings Avenue's northbound lanes

• Launceston Street between Easty Street and Yamba Drive

• Melrose Drive between Theodore Street and Yarra Glen

• Menindee Drive at the Morshead Drive intersection

• Wendouree Drive between Constitution Avenue and Kings Avenue

• Walpole Crescent between Queen Victoria Terrace and King George Terrace

• Queen Victoria Terrace between Walpole Crescent and Langton Crescent

• Federation Mall between Queen Victoria Crescent and Parliament Drive

• Parliament Drive at the entrances to State Circle and Commonwealth Avenue

• Langton Crescent between Queen Victoria Terrace and King George Terrace

• King George Terrace between Langton Crescent and Walpole Crescent

A number of intersections will also be affected by the closures, including:

• Yamba Drive at Wisdom Street and Carruthers Street

• The Cotter Road and Yarra Glen intersection

• Adelaide Avenue at Novar Street, Hopetoun Circuit and Empire Circuit

• State Circle at Perth Avenue, Rhodes Place, Flynn Drive and Commonwealth Avenue

• Kings Avenue at Walpole Crescent, King George Terrace, King Edward Terrace, National Circuit, Macquarie Street, Blackall Street and Bowen Drive

A Territory and Municipal Services spokesman said barriers and warning and diversion signs would also be in place.

The fun run has also prompted changes to Sunday's bus services.

Diversions will affect:

• All route 900 services (northbound) until about 10am

• All route 900 services (southbound) until about 9am

• Route 932 (northbound) to the city bus station until about 10am

• Route 934 (northbound) to the city bus station until about 11am

• Route 934 (southbound) to the Woden bus station until about 11am

• Route 938 (northbound) from the Woden bus station until about 9.30am

• Route 938 (northbound) to the city bus station until about 11am

• Route 938 (southbound) to the Woden bus station until about 9.30am

• Route 980 (northbound) to the city bus station until about 11 am

• Route 923 to and from the Woden bus station until about 9.30am

• Route 935 (northbound) to the city bus station until about 11am

• Route 935 (southbound) from the city bus station until about 11am

The Canberra Times Fun Run takes place on Sunday with 14km, 10km and 5km courses for runners of all abilities. Don't bring your headphones: a line-up of entertainment along the course will help keep joggers motivated and moving.

14km: 8am at Yarra Glen

10km: 8.30am, also at Yarra Glen

5km: 9.30am in front of Old Parliament House

Runners tackling the 14km or 10km courses will run up Yarra Glen and Adelaide Avenue, through Capital Hill and around part of Lake Burley Griffin.

Those running the 5km course will run around Parliament House, then head to the lake.

Runners competing in the 14km and 10km races can leave their belongings at a drop-off station on Yamba Drive from 7.15am to 8.10am. A truck will transport gear to the finish line.

Drivers can park at Canberra College on Launceston Street, Matilda Street, the John Gorton Building, Treasury, the National Library, Parkes Place West, Anzac Park East and CIT.

A shuttle bus will transport finishers back to the beginning of all three courses.

Alternatively, you can catch the bus but keep an eye out for diversions.

Toilets will be located near the 14km and 10km start area, the 5km start area and the finish line.
