The women, who refer to themselves as the "Silver Dragon Mumma's", hope to raise more than $10,000 with a dinner, auction and entertainment night at the Erindale Vikings Club in July.

"Tara Costigan and her family entered the Silver Dragon Mumma's lives through our children's rugby league club two years ago," said event organiser Libby Coonan.

"Drew Costigan has played with our boys for many years and has started playing with us again now, which is great."

Ms Costigan was allegedly murdered by her ex-partner just a day after she sought a domestic violence order against him.

Ms Coonan said the group of mothers were distraught when they heard the news of Tara's death, which shocked much of the Canberra community.

"We discussed this fundraising event in days after Tara passed away because we felt helpless and our boys were seeing the story on the news and felt hopeless too," she said.

"We knew we would do something but were not sure what form it would take."

The mothers have since worked to prepare community event with tickets costing $50 each and all funds donated to the children's trust fund, rather than the Tara Costigan Foundation.

The foundation, which will offer personalised support for victims of domestic violence, will be officially launched on June 14 at the Hyatt Hotel Canberra.

"We don't have any real goal of money to raise but we're looking at raising $10,000 through ticket sales and are calling on people to make donations for her children," Ms Coonan said.

'While it may look like a community thing this is open to anyone who has been touched by this story."
