School stabbing charge

A 15-year-old student was allegedly stabbed with a chisel during a high school disturbance in Canberra's north today.

The alleged stabbing occurred at Melba Copland College, which went into lockdown about midday.

ACT Policing said the 15-year-old student suffered a single stab wound to the back. After being treated by staff, the young boy was rushed to Canberra Hospital. Police say his injuries are not life threatening.

The incident is believed to have occurred within the school building. Police said a 16-year-old boy, also a student at the school, was arrested and will be taken to the ACT Watch House where he will be charged.
