Schoolmates of Tara Costigan's sons are showing their support for the foundation created in her memory by hosting an advanced screening of Blinky Bill The Movie at Limelight Cinemas on Saturday September 5.

It's planned to be a fun family day out which serves to underline the importance of healthy relationships in the home.

Organiser Nicole Gray's daughter Briana is in Year 6 with Tara's eldest son Rhily.

The mother of three said it had been a tough year but the school community was strengthened by the need to rally around Rhily, Drew and tiny baby Ayla after the loss of their mother.

The news had a ripple effect causing families to broach the topic of domestic violence with their primary schoolers.

"It was a conversation I never thought I'd have to have with my 11-year-old," she said.

"Being there on the Monday afterward as the children were told of Tara's death was horrific, but it made me realise domestic violence is something that can happen to anyone. It's not okay and we have to do something about it."

In contrast to chilling statistics about the number of weekly deaths related to family violence in Australia, Mrs Gray said it was encouraging to hear young voices speak up about the need for change.

"It's really cool to hear them talk with strangers on the raffle stalls about the need for targeted support services," she said. "Hearing it from children this young gives you great hope."

Along with seeing Blinky Bill The Movie two weeks before it is due for release, there will be lizards, snakes and turtles in the foyer to touch thanks to Reptiles Inc and plenty of Australian wildlife themed prizes up for grabs.
