Adam John Bowhay was still at large on Wednesday morning, after absconding from a Cooma community work site on Tuesday.

A NSW police spokesman said the search for Mr Bowhay had stopped by 11pm and resumed at 7am.

A Queanbeyan police duty officer said police would be searching residential and bush land areas today.

Mr Bowhay was convicted for the stabbing murder of Steven Jarvis at Casino in 1997, and is described as Caucasian in appearance, about 184cm tall, bald and clean shaven with tattoos on neck, upper arms and legs.

Police urged anyone who saw Mr Bowhay not to approach him, and to call triple 0.
