A shot believed to be a 0.22 calibre round was fired through the lounge room window of the home, located metres from Gungahlin Police Station, into a television in the early hours of Friday morning.

Detective Superintendent Brett McCann said officers had information that the shooting was not linked to an incident on the same street on Monday night, when tattoo parlour Tatts On Tatts Off was sprayed with bullets.

"There's nothing to link that at all," he said.

Superintendent McCann said officers at the 24-hour station heard a noise around 1.40am, but could not establish its source after investigating outside.

They were later contacted by a nearby resident of the Otway Terrace complex, at 35 Anthony Rolfe Drive.

“About 6am, police were contacted by a resident nearby who reported what appeared to be a gun shot into the window into a lounge room,” Superintendent McCann said.

“We have located a single, what would appear to be a .22 calibre round in through the window into a television set.”

The criminal investigations unit has taken over the inquiry and have cordoned off the outside of the complex, located at the intersection with Gozzard Street.

Superintendent McCann said two women were home at the time of the shooting, believed to be targeted, but no one was hurt.

“We do believe that it is a targeted attack,” he said,

“However we don't have a firm reason at this stage as to why… Once we completely debrief the occupants, hopefully we'll have a better idea as to what the motives are behind this. This is not something that they've experienced before."

Forensic officers were called to the scene to gather evidence and are trying to establish whether the shot was fired from the street or closer to the home, possibly within a courtyard outside the unit.

Police do not have any suspects yet, but are following a number of leads.

Police are examining surveillance footage they believe could help the investigation and have called for witnesses to come forward as door knocking operations continue. A sniffer dog was also taken to the scene.

Police said they expect inquiries into the matter will go on for some time.

The shooting, which comes less than a week after another similar incident less than 1km up the street, has rattled nearby residents and businesses.

One nearby worker told Fairfax Media she was shocked to hear of the shooting.

Nearby resident Love Kapil said he was asleep at the time of the shooting, but was later woken by police.

"They said there was a shooting around 1am," he said.
