Shannon Noll braved the rain to wow Christmas in the City crowds at the event's launch on Friday night.
The 2003 Australian Idol runner-up was joined on the custom-built stage by Lah-Lah and her Big Live Band and The Brindabella Chorus ahead of the eight-day Christmas in the City Festival.
Speaking ahead of the event, In the City Canberra chief executive Jane Easthope expressed her excitement at Noll's appearance.
"Along with Lah-Lah and her Big Live Band and Brindabella Chorus's performances, the concert will prove a fabulous start to the festival," she said.
Chief Minister Andrew Barr was on hand to light the star on the Canberra Christmas Tree, but perhaps the most important guest of the event was Santa himself.
Also on Friday was the Burgers, BBQ and Beers Markets, which continue on Saturday.
