Police are looking for witnesses after two men flagged down police attending a disturbance in Chisholm, saying shots had been fired at their car.
About 9.55pm police were at a house on McLorinan St and said they saw the white Subaru WRX had a damaged windscreen.
A spent shell casing was found on the road in front of the vehicle.
The men told police they were approached by two men wearing balaclavas, with one holding the single-barrel long-arm firearm.
The man with the firearm struck the windscreen with the gun and immediately after, a shot was discharged, police said the men told them.
Two men from a nearby home were taken to Tuggeranong Police Station and were assisting police with their enquiries.
On Tuesday, police executed three search warrants and found ammunition in a Kambah home and a firearm and balaclavas at a Phillip business.
A 33-year-old Kambah man has been arrested for unauthorised possession of a firearm and possession of ammunition.
He will face the ACT Magistrates Court later this month.
