Rhys Dean Dugdale, 22, was arrested for drug possession and a failed knifepoint robbery at Kippax late last month[may].
He pleaded guilty to the cannabis charge in the ACT Magistrates Court yesterday afternoon but was sentenced for the drug possession on the spot.
His defence lawyer argued that the man had no income and could not pay a fine but the prosecution submitted that Dugdale should receive a monetary punishment, even if it was out of the “pocket money” received by inmates at the Alexander Maconochie Centre.
Magistrate David Mossop convicted Dugdale and imposed a $10 fine for possessing cannabis.
Dugdale’s lawyer asked for six months to pay, which was granted.
Dugdale was committed to the Supreme Court on the charge of attempted aggravated robbery
