Parts of Canberra have been covered in a light layer of smoke on Saturday, as hazard reduction burns take place across parts of the territory, including in the Inner South.

The ACT Rural Fire Service took advantage of the weather to conduct burns at Mitchell and Barton, while a private landholder was also undertaking a burn in Higgins.
The Jerrabomberra Brigade lit up some open land on the corner of Kings Avenue and Bowen Drive in Barton, beginning about 10am, and due to finish about 2pm.
The controlled burn has been monitored by a number of ACTRFS vehicles and personnel, but still covered parts of the inner south with a light layer of smoke through the middle of the day.
In Canberra’s north, firefighters were also burning three small piles of material near Thoroughbred Park on the corner of Randwick and Flemington Roads in Mitchell.
To the west, a private landholder in Higgins told emergency services they would be conducting a series of pile burns near the intersection of Drake Brockman and Kingsford Smith Drives in Higgins on both Saturday and Sunday.
With only a light breeze over the capital, ACT Health warned that people with asthma, respiratory and cardiac problems should avoid vigorous exercise and stay inside where possible to avoid excessive smoke inhalation.
