The NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service began the burn in the Southern Ranges to reduce fire fuel at Jounama in central-northern Kosciuszko National Park.
The fire is expected to produce smoke over the coming days.
The ACT Emergency Services Agency has asked residents to avoid ringing 000 about this fire, but asked them to report any other unattended fires.
