Special 2003 bushfire anniversary site
This January marks the tenth anniversary of one of the worst natural disasters to hit Canberra, the 2003 firestorm that took four lives, destroyed nearly 500 homes and caused untold injury and damage.
In the lead-up to the anniversary The Canberra Times launches this Friday a special multimedia website presentation featuring interviews with some of the key people involved in fighting the fire and rebuilding from the disaster, as well as residents who were personally hit.
Over three months The Canberra Times has spent hundreds of hours interviewing, filming and photographing dozens of Canberrans from different walks of life whose lives changed forever on January 18, 2003. You can find all their stories and photos from January 11 at canberratimes.com.au.
We also invite all our audience to contribute their own photos and stories via a dedicated email link on the Faces of the Fire website. These will then be included in our coverage of the anniversary commemorations.
