A P-plater who had allegedly been speeding while drunk on the Hume Highway north of Goulburn has been charged after a crash which closed the highway and left one woman trapped in her car.

About 2pm Thursday police received reports of a Mitsubishi Lancer driving erratically northbound on the Hume Highway near Marulan. Officers were dispatched, but it is alleged the Lancer crashed into a Toyota Hilux before police arrived.
The crash blocked all lanes of the highway, and left a 59-year-old woman trapped in the Toyota with serious injuries.
Police Rescue were able to free the woman, who was then flown to Canberra Hospital with fractures to her arms, legs and pelvis.
The driver of the Lancer, a 26-year-old P1 licence holder from Claymore, was not injured in the crash. He returned a positive reading for alcohol at the scene, and later recorded an alcohol level of 0.119 in a breath analysis at Goulburn Police Station.
The man had his licence suspended and was charged with mid range PCA, negligent driving occasioning grievous bodily harm, and P1 exceed speed over 20km/h. He is due to appear before Goulburn Local Court next month.
