No, we won’t put that kind of pressure on them but ACT Brumbies and Wallabies star Matt Toomua and dual soccer and cricket international Ellyse Perry did take their relationship to the next level by being photographed together for the first time at a red carpet event.

The pair happily posed for photographers at the recent John Eales Medal ceremony in Sydney.

The Canberra Times reported earlier this the stellar pair were in a relationship, the national capital playing a part in the twosome after the Brumbies watched the Canberra United play. The pair has been seeing each other since a chance meeting in Sydney when Toomua was about to fly to a Brumbies trial game in Darwin while Perry was getting ready to play for the Australian cricket team.

Perry, who was recently declared the most marketable Australian athlete and has taken up a commentating role with Fox Sports, has recently returned from the women’s Ashes, and now in training with Sydney FC.

Toomua is in England with the Wallabies.

Two beautiful inner-south gardens are open this weekend with opportunities to relax in their peaceful surrounds while purchasing everything from homemade jams to Aboriginal art.

Jane Scroope has been opening her Griffith garden to the public for five years to raise money for projects for remote Aboriginal communities and rural families in Western Australia in areas such as education, gardening and food banks.

This year, she is joined by her friend Jill Bestic and her own garden in Griffith which is accented with ceramic sculptures.

Both gardens are open Saturday and Sunday as part of Weekend in the Gardens – Connecting Communities.

Jill has also created a range of retro-inspired aprons made from reclaimed fabrics.

The aprons along with Japanese water chains and Aboriginal artworks from the Warlukulunga Art Centre of Yuendumu, where Jill has worked, will be on sale.

Jill's garden is at 87 Jansz Crescent, Griffith.

Plants, jams, preserves, morning and afternoon tea and craft will be on sale at Jane's garden. It is at 17 Stokes Street, Griffith.

The gardens will open 10am to 4pm on Saturday and Sunday with tickets costing $10 for entry to both gardens.

Dr Lisa Chimes, of Bondi Vet fame, is enjoying motherhood with her first child, five-month old Hudson.

“It’s going really well, it’s quite amazing. I never, ever imagined it would be anything like this. He’s full of beans,” she said.

“At the beginning, I found it really hard, the lack of sleep. I really struggled with that because I’m a person who needs a lot of sleep. But after the first couple of months, it got a lot better.”

And there was no “sibling” rivalry from her other babies, dogs Nelson and Lucas.

“I was very lucky, it was a smooth transition, everyone got along straight away,” she said.

“They treat him like he’s just a member of the family, which is really good. And they’re very gentle and protective and wonderful.”

Her husband Brad is in sales and also a confirmed animal lover.

Dr Chimes is already back at work, filming for the next series of Bondi Vet for Channel Ten.

“I’m back at work a few days a week,” she said.

Part of the filming was going out to Penrith to help treat some native animals injured in the recent Blue Mountain fires.

“It’s very, very sad to see the animals lose their homes as well,” she said.

Dr Chimes will be in Canberra this weekend for the Pet’s Party in the Park at Crace on Sunday.

It will be held at the Crace Recreation Park on the corner of Abena Avenue and Narden Street from 11am to 1pm on Sunday.

2CC drive presenter Mike Welsh, pictured, MIX 106.3 breakfast presenter Biggzy aka Carla Bignasca, pictured, and 666 ABC breakfast host Ross Solly are all leaving the local airways.

Welsh, 59, revealed on Friday he had resigned after more than a decade with 2CC, because of issues with management.

‘‘I want to make it clear I don’t want to go,’’ he said.

‘‘There’s an issue in middle-management that has been festering for 18 months and it’s still there and it hasn’t been addressed.’’

While he didn’t want to go into details, Welsh said he had had to go into bat for a colleague and was upset with the response from management.

Welsh, 59, has been in radio for more than 30 years.

His last day on air will be November 15.

‘‘I honestly love this job and the older I get the more I realise what a privilege it is.’’

Popular Bignasca is heading to Newcastle with her husband Matty White, who is the new NXFM / KOFM content director. She will see out the rest of the year on-air. And Solly has already announced he is moving to Bangkok, finishing in December

The local shops are often the epicentre of a community and the Red Hill shops are proving that this weekend.

Shopkeepers at Red Hill have banded together for a fundraiser on Saturday for young Canberra girl Annalee – Annie – McGuigan, who has been bravely battling a brain tumour since March.

The fundraising helps her family to stay together as a unit while she is receiving treatment in Sydney.

There will be a sausage sizzle, face-painting and Kenny Koala will visit. There will be other entertainment and a raffle of lots of prizes donated by local businesses.

It will be at the Red Hill shops in Duyfken Place on Saturday from 10.30am to 2pm.

Lots of excitement in Canberra next week when mega-star Russell Crowe jets in to open the Mapping Our World exhibition at the National Library.

Crowe will be officially opening the exhibition and making a speech on Thursday. He is apparently a great lover of maps and was convinced to do the opening by his mate, Ryan Stokes, chair of the library council.

Very rare and old maps, some centuries old, will be on show, with the library banking on the exhibition being a blockbuster over summer.

And perhaps keep an eye out for any luxury aircraft at Canberra Airport. We don’t suppose Crowe will be taking a Murrays coach to town.
