Greens senator Scott Ludlam is scheduled to address the gathering and will urge the government to protect Mr Assange's ''civil and political'' rights. Mr Assange has been effectively detained in Britain without charge for two years now and is at present residing in the Ecuadorian embassy in London where he has been granted diplomatic asylum.
