ACT Fire & Rescue crews helped evacuate a resident from the complex after the small fire began in the doorway.
An ACT Policing spokesman said the fire was believed to have been caused when someone piled rubbish at the doorway and set it alight, but inquiries were ongoing.
Three fire pumpers, the breathing apparatus van and a commander were deployed to the Light Street scene at about 7pm after reports of smoke issuing from the home.
It took firefighters about 20 minutes to extinguish the fire before the scene was handed over to the police.
The police spokesman said the fire caused very little damage and there were no injuries.
He urged any witness or anyone with information to contact police or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
