The supermoon – otherwise known as the perigee-syzygy - shone over Australia on Sunday night appearing bigger and bolder than usual as it approached the Earth at the closest point of its elliptical orbit.
Canberrans will have another chance to see the supermoon on September 9, which will be the fourth supermoon of the year.
Canberra Times photographer Jay Cronan has offered a few tips for those who wish to capture the moon in all its supersized glory.
“Try stopping down your lens to get the best resolution out of your shots,” he said."The best option is usually two stops from the maximum.”
“Make sure you use exposure to capture the highlights of the moon and the shadows. If you don’t, you won’t get all the detail. It will just become a distant mess.”
