Ambulance had been called to the home in Tinderry Circuit about 11.20pm and were treating the 21 year-old man from NSW when he became aggressive.
A police spokesman said he was a big man who repeatedly threatened the people who were trying to treat him for a medical complaint, so they called the police.
‘‘Given his size, the verbal threats, and his aggressiveness, they called for urgent assistant,’’ the spokesman said. He could not say what the man’s injuries were at the time.
When ambulance called for police help the young man left the scene.
But when the officers arrived, he returned and confronted them aggressively, according to the spokesman.
When they tried to arrest him, he resisted.
‘‘He was an angry young man, by all reports,’’ the spokesman said.
‘‘No weapons were involved. But given his demeanour, his level of aggression and verbal threats, it then turned into a bit of a scuffle and the officer was assaulted.
‘‘I believe at the time there were four officers.’’
Due the seriousness of the assault, a sergeant drew and discharged his Taser at the man.
He then was subdued and taken into custody and conveyed to the ACT Watch House.
He has been charged with two counts of common assault, granted watch house bail and will face the ACT Magistrates Court at a later date.
