Ice skating is a daring sport, but performing axel jumps in leotards during one of Canberra's coldest days takes the exercise to a whole new adventurous level.

The mini multicultural festival on ice, Canberra CBD's Skate in the City festivities, continued on Sunday with a helping hand from the local Harmonie German Club.
Despite the near freezing temperatures hundreds of Canberrans came out to snack on Sauerkraut and sip non-alcoholic gluhwein while the ACT Ice Skating Association performed “Bavaria on Ice” wearing little more than Lyrca and Lederhosen's.
Newly elected president of the Harmonie German Club Hans Stoehr was pleased with the turn out and was keen to spread the message about the services the club has on offer.
Mr Stoehr is looking forward to returning the club to its heyday in the lead up to Germany's famous beer swilling festival, Oktoberfest.
“It was the place to go in Canberra during the '60s and '70s and we're working hard to put that real German flavour back into the club,” he said.
By “German flavour” he was referring to his upcoming world record attempt where he will aim to carry 24 one litre beer steins all at once, at the one time.
The standing record is 22 steins.
He will undertake the challenge during the Club's Oktoberfest festivities and will be training at the Club's replica beer hall in the meantime.
