A Canberra taxi driver is accused of running down a passenger and trapping him under his vehicle before speeding off.

Police said the taxi driver dropped off a a 26-year-old man near the intersection of William Webb Drive and Callaghan Street, Evatt, about 10pm Friday night.
"After dropping off the man the taxi driver drove up William Webb Drive, performed a U-turn and approached the man who was near the middle of the road," police said in a statement.
"The taxi drove into the victim trapping him under the vehicle. The taxi then sped off. The victim was taken to The Canberra Hospital. He suffered serious injuries but is in a stable condition."
