A teenage boy led police on a dangerous chase through the streets of Canberra during peak traffic on Friday.
ACT Policing said officers spotted the boy, who was a disqualified driver, leaving the Shell service station on Melrose Drive, Phillip, in a silver Ford Falcon about 5.35pm.
"The officers activated their car’s emergency lights & sirens in an attempt to stop the vehicle, but it accelerated away," they said in a statement.
"The pursuit lasted 11 minutes through the streets of Torrens, Pearce and Chifley before the driver stopped at his home address. There were two other passengers in the car at the time of the pursuit."
The driver was arrested and charged, and will appear before the Children's Court next month.
"The offending vehicle reached dangerous speeds in suburban streets, which created potential danger to other road users, his passengers, the police involved and himself," police said.
They ask anyone who saw the pursuit to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or at www.act.crimestoppers.com.au.
