A 13-year-old boy was taken to hospital with serious injuries after a hit-and-run outside a school in Canberra's north on Thursday morning, according to police.

The boy was walking on a school pedestrian crossing on Starke Street in Holt at 8.55am when he was hit by a black SUV.
According to police, the female driver of the car stopped but did not provide information before driving away. The boy sustained serious injuries and was taken to the Canberra Hospital.
The incident occurred shortly before classes started at the Kingsford Smith School and was witnessed by many parents and students.
School principal Paul Branson sent a letter to parents and the school community explaining the circumstances of the hit-and-run and said counselling was available to students.
Police have described the female driver as having dark hair and wearing businesses attire.
Officers have called for the female driver and anyone who may have witnessed the incident to contact police or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
