Black labrador Sheba and German Shepherd Taj found the perfect way to cool down on Friday as temperatures rose to 30 degrees.
The pair enjoyed a splash at Yarralumla Bay with owners Alisa Anderson of Weston and Caleb Ta Mo of Garren before an even hotter weekend.
The thermometer is expected to hit 32 degrees on Saturday before temperatures soar to a sweltering 36 degrees on Sunday, according to the Bureau of Meteorology.
Firefighters have already started battling fires across the territory, extinguishing two grassfires on Friday afternoon.
Police are investigating the two suspicious blazes, one near Majura Park at the end of the Canberra Airport runway and a second blaze next the Monaro Highway near Gilmore.
ACT Fire & Rescue and ACT Rural Fire Service had three units at the scene of the Monaro Highway fire yesterday, which reached 20 by 30 metres in size before it was doused as of 6.08pm.
The small blaze started not long after firefighters extinguished the Majura Park fire about 5.38pm.
Firefighters were on the scene by 3.51pm and had the 100 by 300 square metre fire under control as of 4pm.
The ACT Rural Fire Service, ACT Fire & Rescue and Aviation Fire & Rescue sent 10 units to extinguish the blaze.
A possible late shower on Sunday could bring a brief reprieve from the scorching weather before an expected 31-degree start to the working week on Monday.
But the cool change won't arrive before 2.5 thousand runners strap on their sneakers and hit the Majura Parkway on Sunday.
The Run for Your Lifeline fun run will see joggers and walkers beat cars to the new Majura Parkway before the road opens to traffic, participating in a half marathon and five and 10-kilometre courses.
Lifeline CEO Carrie Leesh said Actew Water would supply 14,000 litres of water along the routes to keep participants hydrated as they battle rising temperatures.
St John's Ambulance, first aiders and marshalls will be out on the track keeping an eye on runners.
"The five kilometre run is the last event – it starts at 9.30am so, we anticipate having everyone back by 10.40, 11am," she said.
Ms Leesh said the inaugural event had received enormous support and was on track for Sunday.
The road will not be open to spectators or pets.
