Val Jeffery sadly passed away on Tuesday morning aged 82.
He was a long-serving bushfire fighter, advocate for Tharwa, the ACT's oldest politician and a constant thorn in the side of government's and bureaucracies as he pushed for more common-sense bushfire management. He received the Order of Australia medal in 2006 for his contribution to Tharwa, including as the captain of the local bushfire brigade.
Val requested a graveside service so his funeral with be held on Wednesday at 1.30pm at the Queanbeyan Lawn Cemetery on Lanyon Road.
