Building sites in Crace and Belconnen were hit the most often between the start of the year and the end of April, with each suburb recording four instances of theft.
The theft of carpenters' tools and equipment from building sites was worth $4210, which paled in comparison with a theft of a trailer full of tools, taken from Farrer overnight on Thursday.
An ACT Policing spokesman said a locked, grey 1995 trailer was stolen from a home, where it had been hooked up to a car.
The trailer was found in a car park at the Calwell Playing Fields, minus the tools on Friday. Police said the locks on the trailer and the toolboxes inside had been forced open and about $35,000 worth of carpentry and building tools were stolen from the toolboxes. Police have urged anybody with information to call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000. Figures provided by ACT Policing show there were a total of 46 instances of theft from building sites between January and the end of April, with 191 items stolen during those offences with a collective value of $83,557.
ACT Policing said thefts from building sites had been down over the past three years, with 153 reports of thefts in 2009, compared to 135 reports in 2011.
