As part of the centenary of Canberra celebrations, a campaign will start tomorrow to produce a list of the top 100 reasons why Canberrans like their home.
Residents of the national capital will be asked to nominate what they like about Canberra and then vote on the nominations, with the top 100 list to be revealed during the centenary year.
It has been inspired by one simple premise - Canberrans do like Canberra, they just don't know how to express it.
The ''Like Canberra'' campaign features the Facebook ''thumbs up'' next to the word Canberra. The image will feature on everything from T-shirts to an ACTION bus.
One of the brains behind the campaign, Zoo advertising managing director Clinton Hutchinson, said it was aimed at inspiring pride in the national capital among Canberrans.
And it wasn't about a chest-thumping, fist-pumping pride but a ''nicer, quieter, more confident pride''. One that was ''more authentic''.
Mr Hutchinson told recent industry briefings that Canberrans had plenty they liked about their city but often didn't talk about them to other people.
They didn't feel empowered to champion their city and didn't feel like fighting against the tide of negativism about Canberra.
The top 100 list of things to like about Canberra was giving local residents the power to articulate their reasons.
''We are going to reveal the things that give Canberra its soul,'' he said.
And his favourite thing to like about Canberra? That it was a designed city.
''What better than living in a city that has been thought out and designed from the ground up,'' he said.
Centenary of Canberra executive director Jeremy Lasek said nominations would be grouped and put out for a city-wide vote early in 2013. The final 100 would be revealed in March. ''It could be the spectacular Canberra colours in autumn, a walk around the lake, a picnic at the Cotter or enjoying a coffee at Manuka - the options are almost endless,'' Mr Lasek said.
And Mr Huchinson said that there had been no copyright issues in using the ''thumbs up'' image from Facebook.
- From tomorrow, Canberrans will be able to nominate what they most like about their city by visiting the website www.likecanberra.com.au, Facebook page www.facebook.com/CentenaryofCanberra or Twitter with the hashtag #likecanberra.
