Three people were safe near Captains Flat yesterday after having been missing all night
A search on Saturday night failed to find Mrs Shirley Smith, 47, of Fisher, Mrs Shirley Saunders, 46, and her 12-year old daughter Annette, from Victoria, who were reported missing from a homestead near Captains Flat after failing to return from an afternoon walk.
The three telephoned from a nearby homestead yesterday morning to report that they had been lost during the night but were well.
Queanbeyan police said yesterday that a search by the Captains Flat police man and friends of the missing people had been called off just after midnight.
The search was resumed early yesterday morning before being called off when the telephone call
Police said the three had spent the night in the open but were in good spirits.
A helicopter from Fairbairn RAAF base picked up Peter McEnerny, 15, and his brother Gregory, 17, of Meldrum Street, Weston, who were camped about 16 kilometres south of Araluen. When found they were down to a few packets of dehydrated food and were practising ways to catch
The brothers were stranded on the south side of the Deua River where they had been dropped off by their parents a week ago yesterday.
They were to have camped in the area for two weeks, but after being dropped on the right side of the river - yesterday they decided to return to Canberra with their father.
Braidwood police said there had been 60 centimetres of rain in the area in three days last week.
Three other teenagers, believed to be from Canberra are being looked after by a farmer about 32 kilometres south of Araluen, according to Braidwood police, after being stranded.
