Yet Tony Wood, or Victor the Viking to most, would like to be judged for what's under that costume when he stands for the September 9 Queanbeyan-Palerang election.
"I would like the people to vote for me as Tony Wood not as Victor the Viking," Mr Wood said.
"I'd want people to vote for my ideas and what I represent.
"Victor helps me as who I am, but that's only me three hours every fortnight, the rest of the time ticks away with Tony Wood on board."
Despite his obvious connection to the Raiders and running on a ticket with Queanbeyan rugby league royalty in Terry Campese, Mr Wood is actually making health reform his major platform.
Mr Wood works full time in aged care in the Canberra/Queanbeyan region and said there were significant improvements needed.
"I see firsthand what our older generation go through," he said.
"The lack of support these people receive from government is something I want to assist with."
The respite centre championed by Yvonne Cushcieri and Paul Walshe and a community hydrotherapy pool are projects that Mr Wood sees as vital for Queanbeyan.
"The respite centre would be a great asset to Queanbeyan because it would show that we do really care," he said.
"It's fine for council to build a road, but to spend money on a respite centre or hydrotherapy pool it shows that we do care about people."
Born and raised in Braidwood, Mr Woods has spent almost 35 years in Queanbeyan and has a connection to both the former council areas.
However his love of both Queanbeyan and the Raiders has led to one of his greatest career disappointments.
"I lost my role as Victor for the 1989 grand final because of my passion for Queanbeyan and I didn't want the Raiders to leave," he said.
"I believed Seiffert Oval was that great."
Looking back he acknowledged how important the move to Canberra was but has thrown his weight behind Kenrick Winchester's dream of the Raiders playing premiership football in Queanbeyan again.
Irrespective of whether he's Tony Wood or Victor the Viking, there's one thing that defines Mr Wood and it's something Raiders fans would be fully aware of.
"There's a hell of a lot of passion within me, whether it's with the Raiders, with the council or with the community in Queanbeyan," he said.
"The passion that I've got as Victor, I would take into council with me."
