Motorcyclists will be able to park three bikes in a single car space under a new 12-month trial announced by the ACT government.

The trial, which begins from July 1, comes as the government includes new motorcycles and scooters in its vehicle emissions reduction scheme, which lowers stamp duty rates for low-emitting vehicles.
Motorcyclists are required to park in designated bays or in single car parks under current laws.
But the government's trial will allow the parking of three motorcycles in a single car parking space.
The laws will still require the bikes to be parked in a way that allows the others to freely exit the space.
The number of motorcycles and scooters on Australia's roads has increased significantly in the past five years. The Australian Bureau of Statistics estimates that registration for motorbikes and scooters grew by 22.3 per cent between 2010 and 2015, almost double the increase in total vehicle registrations.
Transport and Municipal Services Minister Meegan Fitzharris said the trial would make it easier for both motorcyclists and drivers to find a park.
"Motorcycles and scooters are an increasingly popular form of transport around Canberra," Ms Fitzharris said.
"By increasing the amount of available parking we are also making motorcycle use more convenient and easy."
The trial comes as cheaper stamp duty for new motorcycles comes into effect for Canberrans from July.
The government is adding motorcycles and scooters to its Vehicle Emission Reduction Scheme – a scheme introduced last year to reward those who buy low emission vehicles.
That will see motorcycles and scooters classed as "B-rated" vehicles under the emissions scheme, meaning the rate of stamp duty will be $1 for every $100 of the dutiable value. The rates increase for vehicles worth more than $45,000.
Labor MLA Mick Gentleman said the changes were being made after feedback from the community about the failure to include motorcycles and scooters in the scheme.
"We recognise that motorcycles and scooters can offer significant environmental benefits and their emissions compare very favourably with cars," Mr Gentleman said.
"As a result all new motorcycles and scooters will soon pay less duty on the purchase price."
Fellow Labor Ginninderra MLA and motorcyclist Jayson Hinder has been advocating for both the trial of triple-parking and the inclusion of motorcycles and scooters under the emissions reduction scheme.
He said he has also been talking with council officials in Brisbane and Melbourne about possible sidewalk parking, and whether it could work in the ACT.
