Kambah endured the most storms during the 2016-2017 financial year, based on claims data from NRMA Insurance.
Residents in Nicholls, the only suburb in Gunghahlin to make the top 10, made the second highest amount of claims for storm damage during the year, followed by Gordon and Wanniassa, with Kaleen rounding out the top five.
The remaining suburbs to make the top 10 included Evatt, Fraser, Calwell, Dunlop and Macquarie respectively.
The new figures from the insurance provider showed more than one-third of all claims in the ACT during the past financial year were due to storm damage, making up 36 per cent of home claims.
The number of claims for storm damage, however, was significantly down compared to the 2015-16 financial year, when 57 per cent of home claims were caused by storms.
A spokeswoman for NRMA Insurance said the previous year's figures had an unusually high number of claims.
"While this year's data in the ACT shows a decrease in the amount of home claims caused by storms, it's important to note last year was a particularly severe storm season in the ACT," the spokeswoman said.
"The number of home claims caused by storm damage this year has returned to the long-term average in Canberra, so it's critical that residents understand that severe weather can strike at any time and preparation is key to limiting damage."
The number of claims relating to storm damage this year was just under the five-year average of 38 per cent of all home claims.
Chief officer of the ACT SES, Georgina Whelan, said while the most recent storm season wasn't as severe as previous years, Canberrans shouldn't be complacent as the next one approaches.
"We're getting into the storm season now, and while it's early days yet, [this week's] storm has been a timely reminder of what impact the weather can have across the community," she said.
Storms in Canberra on Thursday night resulted in 13 requests for help to the SES, mostly relating to water damage.
Ms Whelan used the release of the recent NRMA data to remind people of ways to minimise the damage to their homes in the event of a storm during the storm season, which lasts from October to March.
"What people should be doing now is making sure to trim trees and shrubs around the property and securing items around the front and backyard," she said.
"You shouldn't park cars under trees during a storm, and people should keep away from storm drains and creeks due to the risk of flash flooding."
