Tuggeranong is set to get a new water play park as the government aims to garrison the city around its strict obesity targets in Tuesday’s budget. $500,000 has been set aside for the pool at the area’s Lakeside Leisure Centre to be built in the 2015-16 period.

This follows the opening of the new leisure centre at Gungahlin. The running costs of the new centre as well as other maintainence for sports facilities will cost taxpayers more than $2.6million. This includes half a million dollars in 2014-15 for watering sports grounds.
Big shot events dominate the sport budget. While The Canberra Times already flagged the spend, the budget confirmed $2.4million will be set aside this year for three Cricket World Cup matches next year at Manuka Oval.
Funds set out for the completion of the significant upgrade of the Lyneham tennis courts will place pressure on the partnership with Tennis Australia for a major tennis event in Canberra.
Finishing off the upgrade will cost $3million over the next two years.
The Active Kids challenge will continue with existing funding.
