Stephen John Ellis has pleaded not guilty to six offences arising from an incident at Canberra Airport in May this year.
Ellis, a former journalist and senior NBN adviser to Mr Turnbull, was arrested after an alleged act of indecency committed in the presence of another man.
He was allegedly found with LSD and amphetamines.
Ellis resigned from Mr Turnbull's office after criminal charges were laid.
The case appeared before the ACT Magistrates Court on Friday, and defence lawyers confirmed that Ellis would maintain pleas of not guilty to all charges.
A date for hearing was set for May 2 next year.
Ellis was not present in court.
