Augusto Ricardo Tamayo-Del Solar was in January found guilty in the ACT Supreme Court of committing an act of indecency on a friend's 11-year-old daughter.
The 62-year-old had already pleaded guilty to procuring a child for sex, two counts of committing acts of indecency, using a child to produce pornography and possession of child pornography.
At a sentencing hearing on Friday, Tamayo-Del Solar told Justice Richard Refshauge he felt ''terrible'' about his crimes.
The former Spanish lecturer was caught by a police sting after grooming an 11-year-old for sex over the internet.
A federal agent, posing as the girl, continued the exchanges and arranged to meet outside the Florey shops.
Tamayo-Del Solar was arrested at the meeting place and found in possession of a pizza, Coke, a bottle of sparkling wine and condoms.
A subsequent raid of his workplace found explicit images of the defendant with an eight-year-old girl.
Tamayo-Del Solar told the court, from the witness box, of his remorse in manipulating the children and had ''let down many people''. He said he wanted to seek treatment to address his child sex offending and would do anything to prevent him being a danger to the community on his release.
Tamayo-Del Solar has been in custody since December 2009 but, as he is on remand, has not been able to gain access to counselling programs.
Earlier, ACT Corrective Services staff told the court the defendant had been diagnosed as a paedophile as he admitted having a sexual interest towards prepubescent girls. One staff member said he had been assessed as a high risk of reoffending.
Justice Refshauge will hand down sentence next week.
