Police established a crime scene on Friday after a woman died when hit by a truck in Queanbeyan.
The elderly woman was crossing Monaro Street, near Crawford Street, just after 1pm when she was hit by a cement truck travelling in a southerly direction.
NSW and ACT Ambulance services responded, but the woman was pronounced dead at the scene.
A NSW Police spokeswoman said the woman was yet to be positively identified and next of kin notified.
The driver of the truck was taken to Queanbeyan Hospital for mandatory blood and urine testing.
Traffic was affected in the area, with a number of traffic diversions needed to be put in place. Monaro Street between Collett and Crawford Streets was blocked.
A report will prepared for the information of the Coroner and Police are seeking the assistance of anyone who witnessed the accident but not yet interviewed by investigators.
It was the second fatality in the region in a matter of hours, following the death of a man after his car hit a tree at high speed on the Federal Highway north of Canberra on Friday morning.
Emergency services were alerted to the single-vehicle crash involving a Daewoo sedan at Yarra, near Wollogorang Creek, just before 11am. The 40-year-old male driver was the only occupant of the car, and a spokeswoman for NSW Ambulance said he was pronounced dead at the scene.
A crime scene has been established, and will be examined by specialist police with a report to be prepared for the Coroner.
The Snowy Hydro SouthCare helicopter was alerted, but the mission was called off before they arrived.
The NSW Police crash investigation unit was sent to the site to investigate the cause of the crash.
