The University of Canberra has cracked a spot in the prestigious Times Higher Education World University Rankings, confirming its rise among universities worldwide.

The University of Canberra was in the 501-600 band in the 2015-2016 Times Higher Education ranking of 800 institutions, winning a place for the first time since publications began 12 years ago.
In September, UC also climbed more than 100 places in the 2015-16 Quacquarelli Symonds World University Rankings to the 551-600 category.
Meanwhile, the Australian National University has dropped seven places in the updated Times Higher Education table to 52nd in the world. It is second in Australia to the University of Melbourne which remains at 33.
UC vice-chancellor Stephen Parker said it was rewarding to see that the university's growing reputation in research and education, as well as its increasing international outlook, were having an impact.
"This is another great recognition of the University of Canberra's outstanding achievements in its very brief history," Professor Parker said.
"Although the university has never been specially funded for research, it is already being considered among other top universities with longer track records [and] it's exciting to think what the university will accomplish in the next 10 or 20 years."
The Times Higher Education's World University Rankings measure universities on five areas of higher education excellence: teaching, research, citations, industry income and international outlook.
Ranking editor Phil Baty said the rankings "apply rigorous standards, using tough global benchmarks across all of a global research university's key missions: teaching, research, knowledge transfer and international outlook".
"For the University of Canberra to make 501-600 in the world is an outstanding achievement to be celebrated," he said
ANU vice-chancellor Ian Young said "while rankings can be an imperfect measure and move around from year to year, the latest Times Higher Education World University Rankings continue to show ANU among the world's top universities".
In the QS rankings, ANU placed equal 19th in the world and was ranked ahead of Melbourne.
The Times rankings place six Australian universities in the top 100: the University of Melbourne (33), ANU (53), University of Sydney (56), University of Queensland (60), Monash University (73) and University of NSW (82).
