Supplier ActewAGL said a water main on the corner of McInnes and Grittin streets burst on Saturday night and water was cut off at about midnight.
Crews worked through the night to fix the problem but were hampered by a large tree growing above the damaged pipe.
In a statement, general manager Asoka Wijeratne said repair work couldn't be carried out until the tree was cut down.
"The appropriate equipment to remove the tree could not be sourced during the night, which delayed work to remove the tree until 7.30am," he said.
"Once the tree was removed, the water pipe could be accessed and repair work commenced. ActewAGL apologises for any inconvenience caused to the affected customers."
The water pipe was fixed after the offending tree was removed and water was restored at about 4.30pm.
