Water bomber helps tackle grass fire

A water bombing helicopter was brought in to help firefighters tackle a grass fire in Belconnen on Sunday. 

Flames broke out at Coppins Crossing Road just before 3pm as temperatures reached almost 29 degrees in the capital.

Multiple units from ACT Fire & Rescue and ACT Rural Fire Service responded as the fire grew from a front of approximately 100 metres to covering seven hectares. A water bombing helicopter was brought in to help extinguish the fire in some areas that were hard to access on feet or via vehicle.

ACT Policing closed the road while firefighters tackled the blaze, the cause of which is unknown.

Monday's weather forecast for Canberra is  for a cloudy morning, with the chance of a little local drizzle.
