Peter Michael Crawford was armed with a knife when he entered Turner Rugby Union Club with two other men and nabbed $1240 from pokie machines after midnight on May 31, 2015.

He pleaded not guilty and faced an ACT Supreme Court trial.

Two employees were closing the club for the night when the trio went into the bar, shouting at them aggressively as they demanded the workers take them to the safe, court documents said.

One of the offenders ordered one employee to lie face down on the ground while the other two men went to the safe with the second worker.

When they struggled to open the safe they went to the pokie machines instead.

The woman handed over the note stackers from about six machines and phoned police as soon as the men fled.

In a decision published on Wednesday, Justice Michael Elkaim said the case hinged on the identification of the defendant largely from DNA evidence linked to a glove found at the crime scene and CCTV footage of the incident.

He noted one of the worker's description of the accused was not consistent with Crawford's appearance, but eventually rejected part of her evidence.

Justice Elkaim said the woman had been terrified and in fear of her life, and "the event seen on the CCTV footage entirely justifies these emotions".

He was satisfied of Crawford's involvement in the crime and found him guilty of armed robbery in company while possessing an offensive weapon.

The matter will return to court at a later date for sentencing.
