Twelve suburbs lost power about 2.40pm, leaving 1050 Canberrans without electricity.
The suburbs of Duffy, Holder, Stromlo and Weston had power restored shortly after 4pm, giving 550 customers electricity again, and all affected areas were restored by shortly after 7pm.
The temperature at the airport was about 37 degrees for the four hours of the blackout.
The outage was caused by a feeder fault, but the cause of that fault is unknown at this time.
The blackout was not related to the planned outages that ActewAGL put in place at secret locations around Canberra to do pole replacements.
