It seems Lego and anything to do with the animated film Frozen are high on the Christmas wish lists of children in Canberra, according to major retailers and Santa's shopping centre reps.

Frozen has proven especially popular with young girls, like three-year-old Canberran Zoe Reading.

She is just one of the many who have asked Santa for Anna and Elsa dolls and dresses for Christmas.

"I love Frozen, lots and lots," she said.

Frozen and Lego items had been some of the biggest sellers in Australia in the lead up to Christmas.

The Frozen Jigsaw, the Anna and Elsa Sparkle Dolls and Deluxe Princess Costumes are Target's three hottest Christmas items, a Target spokeswoman said.

Merchandise from the hugely popular Disney movie has proved so popular some items have even sold out in various UK retailers.

"Anything Frozen is massive," a Big W spokesperson said.

"Kids just love this Disney movie and the merchandise is providing lots of fun too."

Perennial favourite, Lego, has also topped requests to the big man in red. Like Frozen, Lego had a highly successful movie earlier this year.

Westfield Belconnen's Santa John Rundle said Lego had successfully moved with the market since taking over from Meccano as the most popular brand of toy building bricks.

Star Wars Lego has been a huge seller for boys at Big W, their spokesperson said.

It is a trend echoed by children when telling Santa their Christmas wishes, Mr Rundle said.

At Myer, the Lego Star Wars Millennium Falcon is the most popular choice for boys and Lego Creator Parisian Café for girls in middle primary to early secondary school.

For teenagers, the Parrot Rolling Spider Mini Drone has set Christmas lists alight.

But for alternative gift ideas, Peppa Pig, Nerf and Skylanders toys are still popular options for filling the Christmas stockings of younger children. For older kids Beats headphones, by Dr Dre, are a popular choice, according to Target and Big W.
