Capital Football holiday clinics “Football Fun” is a fun new program launched to give ACT children an exciting school holiday learning experience in high-paced, energetic and football-centred atmosphere. Family/kids programs
Flip Out Feel like having a jumping good time with the family? Take everyone out to Flip Out, a trampoline playground arena. Jump around on the numerous trampolines and try out your acrobat techniques. Flip Out is located in Hume and is open 7 days a week. For more information call 02 6260 1991.
The Fairies: Jump Jump Star Take the children along to meet Harmony and Rhapsody, said to be the world’s most beautiful pink and purple fairies, live on stage. This enchanting production will have your kids dancing and singing along with the fairies' special friends, as they explore how to become a true fairy. Children and Family Programs: Story Time Enjoy a few fairy tales? Bring the family along to the National Portrait Gallery and listen to stories of fairyland illustrated by Ida Rentoul Outhwaite. This exhibition is available for all ages and gives you the chance to illustrate your own response to the stories. The story is happening on one day only on July 9; entry costs $5 for children. Paper making workshops Want to try and make some paper out of old jeans? Head down to the Australian Botanic Gardens and create your own paper and craft items out of a range of recycled materials. Workshops cost $20 and run from July 9 to July 16. The workshops are suitable for children aged 7 to 12 and bookings are essential. To book and for more information call 02 6250 9588.
Mini Museum Curator Have a bit of fun with the family and become a Mini Museum Curator. Mess around and have fun with a professional photographer and be a photo curator in the first week of the school holidays. In the second week you can become a video curator, build a play space and have fun with an artist to make your own super 8 style video. This school holiday program is happening from July 7 to 18 at the Museum of Australian Democracy at Old Parliament House. Entry costs $2 for adults, $1 for children and concessions and $5 for families.
Winter School Activities Get your children involved in Australia’s history by taking them to the Australian War Memorial. School holiday programs include story time, hands-on history activities, drop-in craft sessions, women in war performances and gallery talks. The programs are free and run until July 20.
National Zoo and Aquarium Feel like going on a family adventure? Then head off on a zooventure at Canberra’s National Zoo and Aquarium. Come face to face with a friendly giraffe or feed a 110kg Sumatran tiger. Open 7 days a week from 10am to 5pm. Family day passes cost $105. For more information go to www.nationalzoo.com.au
Skate in the City Enjoy some frosty fun and take the family to Garema Place for some open air ice skating. The rink also includes a "snow box" for the kids to play in. On Friday and Saturday evenings you can enjoy the Stars on Ice performance, and there are also special day time shows. Electronic Game Zone Children can get hands on these holidays with the Electric Game Zone at Westfield in Woden. This totally interactive experience will get enable your children to sample and enjoy the latest and most popular Transformers games on the market at the moment. The game zone is suitable for all ages and will be on from July 7 to 11, 11am to 2pm every day.
Winter Wonderland Week Westfield Belconnen will be hosting a Winter Wonderland Week with great frosty activities including an ice rink at the centre court that children can try for free. Other activities will include taste testing and great offers at Cold Rock, frozen yoghurt, cupcake decorating and the opportunity to stuff and name your own bear at Build-A-Bear. The ice rink will be open on July 4 from 3pm to 5pm and July 5 from 10am to 4pm. The school holiday activities will run from July 4 to 10.
ACT Library activities
Curiouser and curiouser Suitable for children aged 8 to 12, this activity enables children to design and create key chains and pendants inspired by the adventures of Alice in Wonderland and the "curiouser and curiouser" events that occur in the book. These activities will be at Tuggeranong library from 2.30pm on July 8 and Woden library from 10.20am on July 9.
Follow the White Rabbit This activity allows your children to use an iPad, their imagination and a snippet of an image to reveal a photo and where it was taken. This activity is suitable for 7 to 12 year olds and will test their research and investigation skills. Follow the White Rabbit will be on at Erindale library from 2pm on July 10 and at Belconnen library from 2pm on July 15.
Happily ever after: story time and craft This special story time will help teach children from aged 3 to 5 the importance of saving. The actions of the characters and the experiences they share will help children understand concepts such as having to wait to buy something they want and working to earn money. This activity will be on from 10.30am on July 17 at Dickson library.
