But if you want to find the very essence of Christmas, the soul of it, head to your nearest carols.
1. Lanyon Homstead just south of Tuggeranong is having its carols on Saturday, December 16. The event starts at 5pm, carols at 7pm. The cost is $10 per car.
2. Carols By Candlelight at 7pm on Wednesday, December 13 at Stage 88 in Commonwealth Park. Candles will be available for a gold coin donation, with all proceeds going to this year's charity, Parkinson's ACT. Entry is free. Bring a picnic hamper and rug.
3. Carols in the Valley are on Saturday, December 16 from 5pm to 8pm at 104 The Valley Way, Gungahlin.
4. Carols in Town Park is at Tuggeranong Town Park, Sunday, December 17 from 4.30pm to 8pm. There will be free activities for the kids and food and drink to buy.
5. Carols on Condamine will be on Sunday, December 17 at the North Canberra Baptist Church, Condamine St, Turner, from 5.30pm to 8pm.
