A Queanbeyan woman has used her walking cane to subdue a burglar, carrying out a citizen's arrest, after he broke into her home on Monday.
Queanbeyan Acting Inspector Graeme Bailey said the woman, 41, was laying on her bed when she heard a knock on the front door of her unit about 3pm.
By the time she reached her front door there was nobody there, but she then heard voices and footsteps at the rear of the property.
Acting Inspector Bailey said the woman called police to report the break-in after she heard someone trying to open her bathroom window.
A 14-year-old boy allegedly forced his way inside the property and was walking around the house when the woman struck him with her walking stick.
He attempted to flee through the same bathroom window, but the woman gave chase, catching him as he was halfway out of the window.
She managed to restrain him until police eventually arrived at the complex and arrested him.
The 14-year-old has been charged with aggravated break-and-enter with intent and will appear before the Queanbeyan Children's Court at a later date
