A woman has been caught driving at nearly six times the legal blood alcohol limit in Higgins on Thursday.

Police charged the 49-year-old Charnwood woman, who was allegedly behind the wheel of a vehicle involved in a two-car collision about 3.45pm.

Police were called to the intersection of Kingsford Smith and Drake Brockman drives following reports of two cars colliding at the roundabout.

It will be alleged that a Toyota Camry entered the roundabout, and crashed into a street sign, pushing it into traffic. A second car struck the signpost.

Police allege the 49-year-old woman, a probationary driver, underwent a roadside screening test, returning a positive result.

She was then taken to Belconnen police station for breath analysis where it will be alleged she returned a blood alcohol concentration of 0.296 – nearly six times the legal limit for a probationary driver.

Her ACT licence was immediately suspended and she was taken to the ACT Watch House.
She was charged with driving over the prescribed concentration of alcohol and has been released on bail to appear on March 28.
