The woman was cooking when oil caught alight, and she called emergency services and was able to evacuate the scene before ACT Fire & Rescue and the ACT Ambulance Services arrived.

She is being treated for minor smoke inhalation.

Two pumpers, the Hazardous Materials Unit, Breathing Apparatus Van and a commander attended the scene, and fire crews were able to extinguish the fire quickly and there was minimal damage to the kitchen.
