Firefighters and paramedics had to use a spinal stabalisation device to free a woman from a car after the collision in Yarralumla which occurred just before 6pm Friday night.

All northbound lanes of traffic on Commonwealth Avenue from Coronation Drive were initially closed while emergency services attended to the crash.

The driver removed on the spinal device, a woman in her 20s, was treated for potential spinal injuries and another women in her 50s was treated for minor injuries.

Both women were taken to the Canberra Hospital in a stable condition.
