Westbound lanes of Mawson Drive were closed shortly before 3pm, following a crash at Southlands Shopping Centre at Heard Street.
An elderly woman was trapped in the wreckage and firefighters worked to free her while intensive care paramedics stabilised her.
She has since been freed and has been taken to The Canberra Hospital in a stable condition with possible neck, chest and back injuries
ACT Ambulance paramedics also assessed four patients at the scene. Two women were transported to Canberra Hospital in a stable condition with minor injuries.
Eastbound lanes of Mawson Drive were also closed after 4pm, to allow a tow truck to clear the scene.
Traffic was heavily banked up during the afternoon but the road is now clear.
