A 26-year-old woman stopped her silver Ford Falcon station wagon along an access road near the Charnwood Playing Fields about 7.20pm when the man opened her door and pulled her out to the ground.
She hit him with her car keys then ran to a friend’s house nearby, reporting the incident to police an hour later.
Police searched the area but couldn’t find anyone matching her description of a man of African appearance, with a thin build, tall in stature and speaking with a deep voice. He is believed to be aged in his late 20s or early 30s.
At the time of the assault he was wearing a navy blue or black hooded jumper and dark coloured pants.
ACT Policing believes that a soccer game was underway at the Charnwood playing fields at the time and people at the game may have witnessed the assault or seen the offender in the area.
Anyone who may have witnessed the incident and hasn’t already spoken to police, or has information which may assist police is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or via www.act.crimestoppers.com.au.
