A letter was due to go out to residents from the LDA on Friday warning them that earthmoving equipment would be on the site from Monday with a possible increase in noise and traffic.
The LDA, on behalf of the ACT government, recently awarded a contract to SMEC Holding Services to carry out ground testing at the brickworks complex and surrounding areas.
The ground testing will help determine if the site is suitable for future development. It is expected to start on Monday and be completed by September 13.
LDA chief executive David Dawes suggested the testing was only the start. ''The geotec drilling is one of the many tests that will be done on the site to help inform the decision-making process about the site's future,'' he said.
The brickworks, Canberra's first factory, operating between 1913 and 1976, is located on prime real estate in the city's prestigious inner-south.
The prospect of the site being developed for housing, delivering the government a windfall of millions of dollars from the land sale, has been discussed for years.
