FULL TIME

RICHMOND 7.9 (51)
SYDNEY 9.8 (62)

Sydney has taken its winning streak to nine -- but they had to earn it.

The Tigers led at every change, snatching the lead at the last change thanks to an Anthony Miles goal after the siren.

Most onlookers believed the Swans would find a way, and they did, with star recruit Lance Franklin booting the only two goals of the final term to finish with four goals.

"They definitely made us earn it, that's for sure," Franklin told Channel 7 after the game.

"They beat us in the contested ball in the first half and we had to address that."

The Tigers led for 74 minutes of the game but did not stand up when it counted.

Swans midfielder Josh Kennedy, who finished with 24 disposals, said the Swans -- now second on the ladder -- have plenty of improvement to find.

"Yes, we've been winning but if you look at our past two weeks, there are lots of areas we need to improve," he said.

"Even though we missed Hanners (Dan Hannebery) and Ben McGlynn, our young guys really stood up.

"We were really happy with Zak Jones in his first game tonight."

Jones came on at the start of the third term after the Swans subbed off Rhyce Shaw, who injured his left ankle and finished the match on crutches.

Q4 27 MINS RICH 51 SYD 63

Goodes misses a set shot. Mark should have been paid to Deledio up the other end but wasn't.

Q4 25 MINS RICH 51 SYD 61

Jeremy Laidler has a long shot at goal but it hits the post.

Q4 20 MINS RICH 51 SYD 60

Holding the man decision paid against Rance on Franklin. He makes the Tigers pay by kicking his fourth and giving the Swans some breathing space.

Q4 14 MINS RICH 51 SYD 54

Franklin works some magic on the wing, pumps it long to space where Cunningham and Grimes compete in a foot race... in comes Jake Lloyd whose shot at goal misses to the right.

Q4 8 MINS RICH 51 SYD 53

Dustin Martin does brilliantly at half-forward to spot up Riewoldt. The spearhead can't convert though. Disappointing as it was very gettable.

Q4 4 MINS RICH 49 SYD 53

Richmond fails to kill the ball and take it across the line. Swans get it to Franklin, who gets a half-chance, and it's all he needs as he sails through his third major. Swans back in front.

Q4 2 MINS RICH 49 SYD 47

Last term underway... Dustin Martin has a chance to kick the first goal of the term but grubbers one and it's just off target.

THREE QUARTER-TIME

RICHMOND 7.6 (48)
SYDNEY 7.5 (47)

Former Giant Anthony Miles nails a goal from 50m on the siren (Richmond's only major for the quarter) to put the Tigers in front at the last change.

Q3 24 MINS RICH 42 SWANS 47

Jarrad McVeigh boots the Swans' third in a row to take back the lead. Adam Goodes and Kieren Jack involved in the build up.

Scrap that... could be an ankle or knee injury to Hampson.

Shaun Hampson coming off with a leg injury... could be just a corked thigh.

Q3 17 MINS RICH 42 SWANS 41

Vlastuin intercepts the kick in. Can't kick the goal. One behind only. Tigers re-gain the lead.

Q3 16 MINS RICH 41 SWANS 41

Cotchin marks 50m out. His shot at goal fails to go the distance... punched through.

Q3 14 MINS RICH 40 SWANS 41

Luke Parker plucks a miraculous mark when everyone else expected the ball to float over the pack. He can't convert though. One behind. Swans lead.

Tigers activate their sub... Thomas on; Matt Dea off.

Q3 11 MINS RICH 40 SWANS 40

All Richmond defenders were looking at Buddy, expecting him to fly for it, and in came Sam Reid who took the contested mark. He kicks the goal - that makes two for him. Scores level.

Q3 9 MINS RICH 40 SWANS 34

Kieren Jack to Brandon Jack who fires at goal from 50m... misses to the right but all the momentum with the Swans.

Q3 7 MINS RICH 40 SWANS 33

Brandon Ellis unlucky to be pinged for holding the ball. Jarrad McVeigh gets the free. His shot at goal falls short and is helped through for a rushed behind.

Q3 4 MINS RICH 40 SWANS 32

Swans get the first of the third term through Kieren Jack, his second.

Rhyce Shaw is hobbling around the boundary on crutches so his left ankle injury has ruled him out of the second half. He has the red vest on; debutant Zak Jones gets his chance.

HALFTIME

RICHMOND 6.4 (40)
SYDNEY 4.2 (26)

Swans not looking like a $3.50 flag favourite in first half

Brandon Ellis leading ball winner with 22; Cotchin 21
Swans boot last two goals in time-on to ruin dominant half for Tigers
Punter who lobbed $20k on Sydney at $1.20 probably a little nervous.

Shaw doing a fitness test along the boundary. Zak Jones warming up.

Q2 26 MINS RICH 40 SYD 26

Cunningham snaps blindly around his body. Dea has to mark but fumbles it, allowing Kieren Jack to swoop and kick the goal. Swans have two in time-on and are back in the game.

Q2 23 MINS RICH 40 SYD 20

Buddy takes a much-needed contested mark. He kicks the goal, his second. Tigers by 20 points.

Left ankle injury for Shaw.

Rhyce Shaw coming off with some kind of soft tissue leg injury.

Rhyce Shaw limping at halfback. Could be in some strife.

Q2 17 MINS RICH 40 SYD 14

Deledio outruns Nick Smith to slam home Richmond's sixth goal. They're up by 26 points after kicking four of the last five.

Q2 13 MINS RICH 34 SYD 14

Swans turn it over at halfback after a Jetta kick to no one... Tigers rebound and get it to Riewoldt who takes a contest mark 20m out. He capitalises. He's got two. Tigers lead by 20 points.

Q2 12 MINS RICH 28 SYD 14

Behind to Trent Cotchin who roves the pack after Riewoldt fisted it from behind.

Only one goal scored in 11 minutes so far this term.

Q2 7 MINS RICH 27 SYD 14

Franklin intercepts a poor kick out of defence. His shot from 45m on the angle is good. Swans get the first goal of the second term.

Tigers in this right up to their eyeballs.

Lewis Jetta coming off for the blood rule after copping a high one from Houli.

Q2 2 MINS RICH 27 SYD 8

Ricky Petterd gets scoring underway with a minor score to start the second term.

QUARTER-TIME

RICHMOND 4.2 (26)
SYDNEY 1.2 (8)

First-term highlights

Tigers spread the ball around up forward with four individual goalkickers
Rance keeps Franklin goalless
Tigers frenetically passing the ball among themselves to lead total disposals 115-59

Q1 25 MINS RICH 26 SYD 8

Tigers win possession in the middle and go long. Riewoldt marks on the arc. His shot falls short. Miles roves and goals.

Q1 21 MINS RICH 20 SYD 8

Steve Morris wins a free on the wing after Jake Lloyd's sloppy tackle. He kicks it to space and, somewhat luckily, Hampson runs into it and marks. Hampson kicks the goal and the Tigers grab a 12-point lead in time-on.

Q1 19 MINS RICH 14 SYD 8

Grundy's kick inside 50 finds Sam Reid on the lead. Reid kicks the Swans' opening goal, nearly 20mins into the game.

Q1 14 MINS RICH 14 SYD 2

Another rushed behind to Sydney. Buddy couldn't beat Rance in the one-on-one then had a little sook to the ump. Nothing forthcoming.

Q1 10 MINS RICH 14 SYD 1

Rance beats Buddy at halfback. Tigers surge forward through Martin who hits up Edwards at centre half-forward. His shot at goal falls short and is punched through by the Swans for a rushed behind.

Q1 7 MINS RICH 13 SYD 1

Houli bombs it long from outside 50m... Aaron Edwards hangs onto a nice contested mark. Great start to the Tiggers.

Q1 5 MINS RICH 7 SYD 1

Maric short passes to Riewoldt who marks in front of his eyes. This shot is a little closer to the last. He nails this one.

Q1 4 MINS RICH 1 SYD 1

Richmond work it from defence to attack. It took about 25 possessions but they have a chance to kick a goal through Riewoldt, outside 50m. He misses to the right. One behind.

RICH 0 SYD 1

Rushed behind to the Swans; Cotchin's handpass on the last line too hot for Rance.

Rance on Franklin. Play underway in the first quarter.

Trent Cotchin has won the toss and will kick to the Punt Road end.

Tigers are on the field. Poor crowd in attendance.

Swans make their way onto the G. 'Top of the table in our sights' reads the bottom half of their banner. They've won their past eight games and will move to second if they win and the Pies lose to Hawthorn.

Sydney are $1.20 favourites tonight, as you'd expect. Richmond will get you $4.80 for every dollar invested in the unlikely event they get up.

There's 20 minutes until the bounce... if you'd like to know a bit more about Zak Jones, you can read our man in Sydney Andrew Wu's article on him here.
